Axill Europe Ltd, a subsidiary of Northgate Technologies Ltd, has announced plans to invest up to Rs 25 crore (about € 3 million ) in bharatstudent.com, a social networking site addressing issues relating to higher education and students.
The company claimed that within two months of the launch of the site, around 7.2 lakh had been registered with them. Significantly, it has inducted about 400 students as campus reporters and plans to recruit 2,000 in all by the year-end.
Popularity
Addressing a press conference here, the Director of Axill Europe, Mr Vishnu Vardhan Induri, said: "The site has had over 30 million page views and has emerged as the 45th most popular site in India within a very short span. As we begin to provide more information from campuses, we expect more students to be part of the site." Unlike other social networking sites, it would also feature Campus TV that would uplink latest developments from the campus on to the site.
These student-recruits apart from being paid about Rs 4,000 per month in India and about $300 to $500 per month abroad, would also become resource members helping students with valuable information on college admissions and help them in the admission process.
The first batch of 400 students recruited from various colleges in India would go through a training programme at Hyderabad he said.
