JNTU-K enters into agreement with SMIL
The Hindu, Posted: Friday, Jun 12, 2009

Kakinada: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) – Kakinada on Thursday entered into a services agreement with Social Media India Limited (SMIL), a subsidiary of Northgate Technologies, for extension of technological support to JNTU-K and its affiliated colleges spread over eight districts.

SMIL, which was the creator of Bharatstudent.com, India’s most popular youth community portal, would lend its expertise in web and communication technologies to JNTU-K, said Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao.

Addressing mediapersons after Registrar V. Ravindra and SMIL director D.V.S.S. Lakshmi Narayana exchanged copies of the MoU, Prof. Appa Rao said that SMIL would study, facilitate and provide the required technological support to JNTU-K in the eight districts of its jurisdiction in order to enable it to improve its standards to global level. The agreement with SMIL was in tune with the JNTU’s endeavour to forge public-private partnership in the education sector as per the recommendations of the National Knowledge Commission.

Mr. Lakshmi Narayana said SMIL would act as an interface with industry for the benefit of JNTU-K and students, help the university in its brand building exercise by providing necessary connectivity and showcasing its courses, faculty and training modules.

Collaborations
Besides, SMIL would facilitate technical collaborations with foreign universities, industry majors and industry chapters/associations like CII, FICCI and NASSCOM.

SMIL and Knowledge Base Technologies India Private Limited would provide access to world-class content and faculty services in technical education.

JNTU directors and others were present.
